Fruit Ninja Kinect Review (XBOX Live Arcade)

Admit it. You've always dreamed of taking a samurai sword to a watermelon, slicing it in half or even thirds in one quick slice. Fruit Ninja Kinect proves that you're certainly not alone, as it brings the popular cellphone game to our home entertainment centres via the XBOX 360 and its XBOX Live Arcade.

Use your body as the controller as you slice away at fruit, trying to earn combos and high scores. Beat your friends to get to number one on the leaderboards, or play with a friend in its Party modes. Either way, you'll have a blast.

Fruit Ninja Kinect is set to hit XBLA this week. It's certainly worth checking out and is an absolute blast.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Review (XBOX Live Arcade)

A friend asked me if I would take part in a community review for Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. My objective was to play the game and write two paragraphs about what I liked about the game.

Here's my brief review, which appeared on the XBOX Canada Blog:

Developed by FuelCell Games, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is an interesting mixture of a few different genre elements. There's your twin-stick shooter action mechanics, Metroid-style map design plus backtracking, as well as some well-designed and interesting puzzle elements. It's a concoction that mixes incredibly well and doesn't feel like a second-rate attempt at any of the aforementioned game types, which is quite impressive. In fact, it's a very polished experience that won't bother you with clunky controls, problematic physics or noticeable glitches. Something we gamers love to see when we spend our hard earned dollars on a new game.

The most impressive part of it all is its art design, created within the abstract mind of Michel Gagné. To say that this game is visually interesting, innovative and stunning would be to sell it short. Each new area of the game presents a new visual treat, adding new puzzles, obstructions and colourful designs along the way. Those who say that video games aren't art should definitely check this one out in high-definition because it'll certainly change their collective minds. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet looks and plays differently from almost everything else on the market, which is a nice thing to see. Buy it for its solid design and amazing art, knowing that one of the major reasons you did so was to prove to the non-gamers around you just how innovative these digital escapes really are.

Needless to say, I really liked it.

Cars 2: The Video Game Review (XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3)

Disney and Pixar have teamed up to once again bring talking Cars to the big screen. To complement the huge release that was Cars 2, Avalanche were tasked with creating a video game tie-in and they did a great job.

Captain America: Super Soldier Review (XBOX 360 and PS3)

The All-American superhero known as Captain America is currently gracing the big screen, taking out any Hydra forces in his path. To complement the film, SEGA and Next Level Games have teamed up to release a video game companion entitled Captain America: Super Soldier.

It's a cool game that does the hero justice. The story doesn't follow the film's plot, instead choosing to go in its own related direction.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel Review (XBOX 360 and PS3)

In the third entry of their wild west shooter series, Techland has decided to change things up. Now taking place between Los Angeles, The Grand Canyon and border towns in Mexico, Call of Juarez: The Cartel is quite a diversion from what we're used to.

Boulder Dash XL Review (XBOX Live Arcade and PC)

Retro gaming is back in spades, with the release of Boulder Dash XL. It's a game that takes the series iconic and popular gameplay elements, and updates them a bit. There are lots of modes and tons of game time, with over 200 different puzzles.

Fans of the original game will be happy to know that there's a retro mode, although it doesn't have the same maps as its predecessor.
